The MAG-DRIVE consortium brings together the most advanced magnets research activity in Europe with a major European OEM, to produce the materials and systems necessary for next-generation EVs.


MAGNETI Ljubljana d.d. is a privately owned SME located in Ljubljana, Slovenia. It has 60 years of experience in the magnet production sector, and is one of the last companies in Europe making permanent magnets. Currently, MAGNETI is a worldwide supplier of AlNiCo, SmCo and NdFeB magnets, magnetic systems, and dental alloys. All magnets and magnetic systems are custom made upon request, including magnetic systems motors, electric-current meters, low/high voltage products, with a special focus on the automotive industry.

The company includes many large clients among its customers including Bosch and Continental, and the research and technology department of the company has 11 members working with clients on the full development cycle of magnets and their production. The company has constant investment into development and research projects with international external partners.

The company is certified according to ISO 9001 since 1993, ISO 14001 since 2000, ISO/TS 16949 and OHSAS 18001 since 2002 and 2003, and is now in the process of obtaining the IRIS certificate.

Staff members involved

Mr. Uros Bavdek is the Head of Research and Technology Department at MAGNETI and has extensive experience in development of production for RE-based powders for permanent magnets by rapid solidification and HDDR process, in bonded magnets prepared from HDDR processed and coated powders, and the use of RE–TM alloys for high energy permanent magnets and for metal hydride batteries.

Dr. Irena Skulj is Head of Research for Rare-Earth magnets at MAGNETI, and was a post-doctoral researcher at the Institute of Materials and Technologies in Ljubljana for 3½ years.
